Author Topic: How dangerous is it to disable PSU fan?  (Read 9162 times)

So what are you trying to say?
He's trying to call us idiots while being an idiot.

Lol I'm not calling anyone an idiot they jumped on me. I was just trying to say that to the average joe that shock would be burns and maybe nerve damage, not death.

Well, if you're so certain that this can't kill you, why not making a video of you touching one?

Why are you so upset?

Less instant death more owwie.
Okay, you're right. Anything else?

Why are you so upset?
what a sensitive jackass you are lol

Okay, you're right. Anything else?
No, I was just trying to clarify what I said but everyone start losing their minds.

ALRIGHT PEEPS HERES HOW A PSU COULD KILL YOU:

So lets find out the specs of the capacitors in some random 1000w PSU:
http://aphnetworks.com/reports/seasonic_platinum_1000w/3
This Seagate PSU has 3 330µF x 420V capacitors in parallel effectively creating a 990µF x 420V capacitor.

Amps are what you can use to figure out if something is lethal or not, so lets go and find a calculator for this:
http://planetcalc.com/1980/
What is the resistance of a human?
https://van.physics.illinois.edu/qa/listing.php?id=6793
Looks like the high range is 1000 ohms internally and a huge range of 1000-100000 on dry skin.

If we use a generous value of about 3000 assuming your palms be sweaty from being nervous working on something that can kill you, we get that there's about 0.14 amps running through your body in an instant.

https://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~p616/safety/fatal_current.html
States that anything about 0.1 amps is likely to cause death.

SOOOOO
Have fun dying if you managed to short the capacitors with your body on the PSU.

If any of you actually have experience in electrical engineering, have fun correcting anything wrong with this~

Plz Kaz

EDIT: Fixed series to parallel.

i killed a man with a capacitor once

No, I was just trying to clarify what I said but everyone start losing their minds.
people are not losing their minds
you are being stupid (for not acknowledging any of the evidence and the consensus, including from people that work with computers) and also being a richard (for acting all smug with your insurance company and pretending like we're all oblivious little children trying to get a reaction from you). why don't you just drop it?

Lmfao are you serious dude? Four hours later second page, but I'm the one that can't drop it. Aight lol

it wasn't on the second page
i didn't look at the time

i'm not sure what your point here is, as far as i could tell you were still arguing
in fact you still are.

whatever i shouldn't have jumped in
