Author Topic: Add-on Forcer (Now transmits datablocks, please update!)  (Read 4911 times)

Some constructive criticism:

  • Gui looks pretty bad
  • Code is needlessly complicated.
  • Code is needlessly complicated. (listed twice because I really wanted to emphasize on this.)

I don't like people using things that can be made better, and you decided to plaster your name all over it soo...

I made this 20 minutes after you posted this.
I think the total code of mine is like, 40 lines in total. Perhaps you should download it and take notes.

OK mang, we get that you are a better coder than this guy, but I think that this is really rude. You literally just said in different words "Look, I made this in a fraction of the time you did, and its so much better"
What would you do if you made an add-on topic, and then a better coder than you, LITERALLY MADE A BETTER VERSION THAN WHAT YOU DID AND POSTED THE DOWNLOAD LINK.
You wouldn't like it, right? I understand that Setro's add-on might not have been the best, but it would be great if you didn't stuff on his work. I may be taking a bit of offence by your post, mostly because Summet did almost the exact same thing to me, except he at least didn't remake the whole damn script. he actually gave me credit. If you are going to criticize, then don't be all "Ok, so. Your code is stuff, and it looks stuff. Here is a non-stuff version."
You can give input, but do it in a way where you don't make an add-on that does the exact same thing, but better, in his own damn topic. This topic is about Setro's addon. not yours.

Darksaber's code isn't even better.

thank them for their time, replace my download link, and then study what they did better
oops, wait, i guess that's too mature of a response to ask for, huh.

I remember when I made a mod like this. Sadly, people have kept bashing it and claiming it does not work. However, it does work and is more or less built up like this add-on. It was failed years ago, first on RTB and later on this forum. Most users didn't realize of how to use such a powerful add-on in the right way.

it's an add-on that essentially functions as a shorthand for two console commands, what are you acting so dramatic about

I remember having this a few months ago but i lost the download link and not had it back since then and now i am glad you have it!

Just for feather information if you try loading a brick all that the clients can see is the size of the brick so if i try loading in a door that is 4x5 all they will see is a 4x5 brick and not the door. They will have to rejoin.

Yes, I might sound a bit dramatic, but that is how it went with it. Rather not want this add-on to see the same fate even when mine did have more functionality:
  • Dedicated server support
  • Host only
  • Fail-safe
  • Datablock update
  • List of add-ons with GUI
However, it doesn't protect you from not having the add-on and crash. It also did not support client add-ons.

It's because he's not transmitting the datablocks.

It's because he's not transmitting the datablocks.

Without transmitting the datablocks, I'm pretty sure all clients will crash or exit with "invalid packet"

What's happening is they don't have the blb file, but brick size is defined in the datablock. So it'll render a cubic brick.

I might have misunderstood something. My bad.

this mod works fine for anything without datablocks but once you introduce those to the mix problems arise for your players

THANK YOU BASED SETRO.
Does it also work with weapons or only scripts?
Does it work on servers?

Yes, I might sound a bit dramatic, but that is how it went with it. Rather not want this add-on to see the same fate even when mine did have more functionality:
  • Dedicated server support
i have stated multiple times before that dedicated support is coming.
  • Host only
uh
  • Fail-safe
how is this add-on not fail safe?
if you load an add-on that crashes, you are obviously going to crash

  • Datablock update
i have added this in just now
It also did not support client add-ons.
what?
mine specifically checks if the add-on a client.cs file.

excuse me if i'm wrong, but that seems as if you are boasting about how you have more experience as a programmer than i have. if that is the case, please stop.

i dont see mctwist as attacking you or boasting about himself. might you be taking his words the wrong way?

i have stated multiple times before that dedicated support is coming.
I am just listing what my add-on supports. Never said that your was bad.

uh
Because admins should not have power to accidentally load any add-ons. It's all up to the host.

how is this add-on not fail safe?
if you load an add-on that crashes, you are obviously going to crashi have added this in just now
As mentioned above, I'm just listing what I support. In this case it is about avoiding crap-ons, invalid scripts, etc.

Still talking about my add-on.

I apologize if I've offended you, and I could indeed be a worse scripter/programmer than you. I would love to hand you my add-on, but I rather not be banned for doing so.
