Can't get videos off of my phone

So occasionally on the job I have to shoot video with my phone so to get it off my phone and onto my hard drive I hook my S5 Mini up to my computer with a really basic, really simple USB connection.

One the phone it gives me 2 options to connect to the computer with:
Media device (MTP) and Camera (PTP)

With MTP all of the images show up and download as 256x256 icons that don't even match the file names and the video files are just still icon images when viewed in VLC

With PTP all of the images show up correctly but video files, simply put, do not show up at all even though they are in the exact folder as my pictures.

[rant] Is it really that hard to do a simple USB transfer from my phone to my computer? All of the video files are too large to be sent by e-mail and Google Drive is impractical.
With all of the sharing options available there isn't an option like "Send through USB"

This is loving ridiculous.
I ended up having to put my microSD card in my Pantech P2020 to get it to read all the files. In order to take the card out of my S5 Mini I had to take out the battery which of course reset my date and time.

loving piece of stuff. I'm never buying a Samsung phone again.

Funny thing is I don't need to restart or power down to change the MicroSD card on my P2020.
