Author Topic: Looking to upgrade my PC and I know next to nothing  (Read 864 times)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Most games aren't running nearly as well as I'd like them to. I'd like to spend no more than $500, but if I go over a bit it's not a huge deal.

Current specs:

GPU: GeForce GT 720
CPU: AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor 3.80 GHz
Memory: 8.00GB RAM (8GB Useable)
OS: Windows 10

Bought this as a pre-built computer from CyberPowerPC and I'm really not sure what to do with it.

Well your CPU is already decent I think, you could however spend a couple hundred on upgrading the cpu, sell the old one, and buy a new GPU for around 300 as well. That'll let you play basically any game at high to max settings.

Buy a GTX 980.

On Newegg they have a sale so p much every 980 is $4XX.

Get a GTX 970 and upgrade your CPU to something like an FX-6300 or FX-8350.
You won't spend more than about 400$ on this, and you'll be able to run a lot of games on high/ultra.

GPU - GTX 970  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487086 $349.99

Total: $490

yeah you got to it before me. The 8350 would put him just over 500 so I went with a 8320.

EDIT: Optionally you can just buy a GTX 980, but I'm afraid your 4300 would bottleneck it.

Found the page I bought this from

The case seems a bit small, would a 970/980 and fx-6300/8350 fit or would I have to buy a new case? Sorry, I feel pretty clueless.

I'll probably go with this, how can I check if the GPU will fit into the motherboard before I buy? Had that problem when I borrowed a friends old GPU a few years ago.

And there shouldn't be any issues about a CPU and space inside the case, right?

You should be fine. Other microatx cases could fit it fine.
