you don't have to be 500% technical about it, geez
he said he wanted something cheap, there's plenty of options VPS-wise
but I'm saying that's not a useful answer
like, now he knows that a VPS is an option, but that's it. it's better than nothing I guess, but it doesn't get him any closer to hosting a website
a VPS is probably kind of on the technical side for someone like OP but I think it would be worth it to learn anyway
there are tutorials all over for it, and it will hurt absolutely nothing to get a little familiar with linux
but most importantly, it leaves a lot of room for new stuff. like, the ease of use that comes with a shared hosting provider is nice, but there's so much more freedom with a VPS. chances are you will never find a shared host that allows you to host a website written in Lua, but you can definitely do that with a VPS
maybe you won't ever want to
but it's fun to play around
edit: and I guess since I'm whining about tbp's answer I might as well suggest some providers
I use
nfoservers for my website. it's nice. $20 a month for a very adequate server. probably the most noteworthy thing about it is the ability to choose windows server as your OS for free. but for me that IS ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS HECK WINDOWS SERVER
you might also want to take a look at
kimsufiI haven't used them but I've been thinking about it. the company is french but there are servers in the US so that's fine
their biggest advantage is that their servers are
dedicated servers, not
virtual
private
servers
for really cheap. but I'm honestly not sure if most people would get a whole lot of good out of that difference
they do get OVH's DDoS protection though. so that's cool. especially if you're a blockland player which is just ridiculous. it is absolutely absurd that that is a problem. why are there so many whiny little script kiddies in this godforsaken place
