Im going to assume you're talking about a Wii U gamepad.I also broke my gamepad screen at one point by stepping on it, which sucks.Sadly the only option you got is to send it in to Nintendo for 100$ to have it fixed. Look up their customer support, it wasn't a hard process and it was fixed relatively quickly.

The thing is, you can use the d-pad and a button to manually type on Wii U gamepads. So there is no reason that he is typing
