Author Topic: Windows 10 internet issues  (Read 421 times)

Alright, so I finally installed Windows 10.

First time I did it months ago, no browser worked at all, even though other applications used the internet just fine. This time, I had it delete all my apps and settings, and I installed Chrome, and Chrome works beautifully, but Edge, Store, Mail, and any internet-using preinstalled app does not work.

That is, UNLESS I go to Task Manager > Services > Open Services > Windows Firewall > Stop. Thus, turning off the firewall (only in this manner will it work) enables me to use Edge and other apps.

Also worthy to note is that Firewall believes I'm on a public network. I cannot figure out how to change it to a private network. That and Network and Sharing Center says I'm not connected to a network, even though I am.

Anyone have any suggestions?

try reinstalling the drivers for your network adapter

im pretty sure this is a firewall issue not network adapter issue

the thing that is preventing applications from using the network is probably the firewall, but the firewall issue is probably coming from the computer thinking it's on a public network
and, as far as I can remember, public and private network settings would be in network and sharing center. but... that's saying it isn't connected to a network. which sounds like a problem that reinstalling your network adapter drivers might fix

edit: also I mean update, not reinstall

I'll give it a try tomorrow. The computer works enough to get my school done so that's good. But now I need sleep.

What about proxy settings or VPN settings?

In settings>network>proxy

Make sure its set to auto detect settings, also OP should know Control Panel is deprecated/gutted, if he has build 10586 (you can check your version by typing winver in search and hitting enter) many links to control panel are either dead or nonexistent and the network and sharing center is missing some things because some settings getting moved to the settings app. Not saying everything is gone though, there are many duplicate areas in control panel still, but now many are non-existant or dead.

Now if its a network driver acting up than he should download the network drivers from the oem of his motherboard and keep them saved so that when he uninstalls and restarts he can install them, don't install them over your existing drivers without restarting, some of the old drivers could still be loaded if you try and install.

I have a dedicated WiFi card. Wouldn't I need those drivers?
