Don't buy any bright colored or reflective mouse pads.

I've had many issues where my game spazzes out for a long time. I thought it was the mouse. Apparently the laser reflects off the bright colors of the mousepad and causes random spazzes.

I don't know if they have a service in the US, or ship there (or what costs for that would be), but I have a pretty nice one from Vistaprint.co.uk
It's customised with a photo, which is a nice touch, but the mouse mat itself is a decent size, stays in place, is quite thick, and has given me no issues with either laser or ball mouses.

If you're just wanting a generic good mousepad, then these are nice, plus you can get a picture that you like on it. Make it a little bit more special for you.

If you're not happy with it, vistaprint seem pretty quick to get back to you and discuss replacements or refunds.
