Author Topic: Any way to fix old HP Pavilion dv4000 laptop?  (Read 349 times)

I just wanted to put a Hackintosh onto it, but struggling to boot off of my USB drive, I went into the BIOS many times before the screen went blank. So I restarted it and it gave me 4 beeps and the power button and power indicated were blinking. I suspect I wore out the motherboard and the laptop panics. If there's nothing I could do with the laptop, then I will just recycle it.

fixing an HP?

nope, you're forgeted.

I've fixed three HPs before because my dad has no knowledge about good laptops. If you don't mind waiting until I return to my country, I can give you a hand.

One thing I would always highly recommend for prebuilt systems is to look at the service manual. This is a link to the service manual to your HP laptop, and on page 39 (Section 2-9) is a flowchart going through the troubleshooting steps.

Furthermore, beep codes are generally standardised with different BIOS vendors. According to this list, you're looking at any of the following problems depending on the specific beep:

  • Memory failure in the first 64 KB Operational of memory or Timer 1 on the motherboard is not functioning
  • Programmable interval timer failure
  • Faulty Motherboard
  • Display adapter problem (EGA)
  • No video card or bad video RAM (Reseat or replace the video card.)

I was hoping I could fix this in the virtual side, not the physical side.
Thanks anyways guys (especially stufflord)

This thing will get in a recycling place (finally) and will be done for, the battery was bad anyways.
