So, several months ago I went on a field trip to my nearest civic center and learned about 3 magnet schools; VMT, Early College, and an Engineering magnet school. I applied for Engineering at first because you can learn how to make video games there, and I'm really hyped about it since I want to make video games.
However, I started thinking about how insanely difficult it might be to actually MAKE a game, and my mentality was being like "i can do this on my own no big deal" even though I want it to be a 3D-like game that's really big, and they'll really only teach me coding and other visual stuff. But... I really like drawing.
So, this is where VMT comes in.
I applied for VMT like a few days ago (they allow applications still thankfully) and I wanted to get better at drawing, so my first choice was drawing, since I believe that'll help me more than coding (sounds dumb i know) because for the video game I know what all the characters look like and I know the entire story after years of planning, so.. yeah.
I'm still torn about going to that Engineering magnet school or VMT, but here are some factors. (btw i don't have a problem with working, it's if i have TOO MUCH work then that's a problem)
VMT: (positive)
- It's really close to my high school; its literally just right across the street.
- I like drawing a lot to the point I draw literally whenever I can, and it passes the time during school. (After I'm done with work...)
- I honestly believe that VMT will help me better out in the long run when making video games because I'll know what all the characters look like and the entire story.
VMT: (negative)
- Supposedly you have to work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, wooooooork... all the time at VMT.
- I don't honestly know if any of my friends will be at VMT, and I really love my friends. (friendly way not the love-love way)
- I hate after-school stuff because I want to head straight home and use the computer or console or IPad all day because school is already boring and tiring enough (even though it gets me my education) and I don't know exactly if VMT will have after-school stuff.
Engineering Magnet School: (positive)
- Coding will, apparently, be a great skill to have alongside drawing (even though i wanna get really really better at drawing), as far as my teachers are saying.
- I like the color blue. (dumb reason honestly)
- Some of my friends are going to the Engineering magnet school.
Engineering Magnet School: (negative)
- I loving suck at math. My friends and teachers tell me that you'll have to do lodes a math over there.
- It's at another school, and while I have no problem riding buses there, I might end up getting stuck over there if I'm late to the bus and my parent's can't really drive all the way there and plus some... fears that involve 'physical aggression'. Sounds dumb, but... hey, I hate getting hurt.
- Work, work, work, work, workity work...
TL;DR: I need your opinion on whether or not I should go to VMT to focus on the path of drawing and art or go to the Engineering magnet school to focus on the path of coding and video game design, or don't go to either at all.
edit: btw these schools are supposedly super good despite being free, idk
