Many animals actually have a bone in their snake, called a baculum. The badger, dog, whale, and even our relatives, the chimps and gorillas have them.
Native Alaskans use the word "Oosik" to refer to the baculum of various creatures, such as walrus, seal, sea lions, and polar bears.
They often decorate them too, and are said to symbolise fertility.
Here's a Walrus baculum that has been decorated to have the head of a walrus!
