Author Topic: Yet another Post-Apoc RPG [Working title] [Gib suggestions]  (Read 1425 times)

Okay so I recently started up blockland again and oh boy inspiration came flowing towards me like jews to a 5 cent coin on the street. So maybe a few of you knew my previous post apoc RPG wich was "okay" but was p much 50 shades of brown. Well im redoing the thing with updated events, interactive stuff, quests and whatsnot. Right now im building a small alpha with a handfull of quests and some "game mechanics" to keep you going. The alpha is meant to get suggestions and criticism wich I can use to fix everything and expand the map upon that.

Screenies

Suggestions and criticism
God please, I need this so hard. If you want to give it just post in this topic, send me a PM or just tell me ingame. We currently need a name, because im not creative at all. A currency name, because gold is meh. Quest ideas because right now it just are classic quest such as kill this or gather that. Besides the creep quest ofcourse :^)

Please give me suggestions

the ground looks way too flat. it should be slightly higher and slightly lower in different places. and you might put some 1x1 flats around the place as rocks. also, dirt grounds are just pretty ugly in general. i guess it fits the theme but i always prefer grass.

the tents should have supports through the middle, and they should have inverted ramps on the inside walls, so they look like / \ that instead of being super blocky.

that wall looks pretty weird. pure white material seems like a strange thing for a post apocalypse society to be building with. i think just a gray fence with red/grey bricks at the base would look better.

the trees are too uniform. usually where trees grow, there is also grass too. they should be spread out all over the place. its weird for there to be no trees and then some super densely packed trees in one spot.

the area walls mostly look good, but i would recommend you make each later at least 1 brick back from the layer below it, so it doesn't look like spam. it will feel like real terrain. also, you might want to use modter  for that, as you can texture it.

here's an example of a post apocalypse (kinda) area that me and magus and conan did. the materials are dark copper and iron, which makes sense. also the floor isn't flat, and the area walls are different after each layer. they wouldn't look nearly as good if we just duplicated the second layer all the way to the top.

Yeah the build could be better, but really, nobody cares as long as it does it's job. Tezuni's prison build has sucked for a decade and people still play it because it's got an engaging gamemode. You're not gonna sell the idea based on images of the build. Give us a concept of what there is to do in-game.

i dont think you should be telling people to base their servers around tezuni's, a server near-universally seen as the worst of the worst.

idk about you but personally the build quality is extremely important to me. if the server looks like crap i get uncomfortable and leave. also, the quality of your build directly represents how people will set their expectations for your server. if it looks good they will be much more likely to stay and learn the rules rather than glance over it and leave.

Tbh only the newer player play prison escape still. Its gotten really old and bland. It was good in 2013 and 2014. But yeah, you need an engaging game mode along with an engaging build.

Well personally I'd rather have a working build that can be improved over time than a half-finished detailed build that nobody's ever going to see. Worry about details like color and tree placement later, right now I'm more interested in hearing about what there will be to do on the server. Most of the active players nowadays can't build for stuff anyway and they're the ones you want to be pandering to, not the elite minority.

Looks like a great start, but would really benefit from some more colour in the build.

I tried doing this but I never got arround to do so

Inverted ramps make the tent looks super thick.

Its actually grey but okay.

The trees are just placeholders for the RPG stuff. I was planning on building tents all the way trough and place trees and ores on "Routes" to different locations.

Theres this jumping glitch and I dont want people to get too high up and take advantage of it. I guess I can change everything arround to modter but that would take a while. I also dont like building with modter in general.
I only build the barebones of an RPG, allot of things will be changed and improved.

Ik, I have a habit of building everything is brown because dirt and wood and black, white and all the colors between that because stone.

Even the most dilapidated of buildings still have colour and character. Overgrown vines, crumbling coloured roof tiles, even stuff brought in by other inhabitants.

now i will refute every one of your suggestions as though i was trashing your server or something

its pretty clear that it's a camp build after the end of the world, not a camp hanging out in the ruins of the world. so it makes since it would be cloth and scrap metal
