I don't know why, but I love Japanese architecture like this

[insert insult of how much of a weaboo you are

I know a bunch of absolutely useless history of the Toyota marquis pre 1991, I know all of the slogans, when they changed logos, how to tell if a camry is 1987/1988 or 1989, or 1990/1991 without looking at the vin or knowing in advance. all of the tiny diffrences, mechanical changes, facelifts and paint colors of 1983-1988 tercels, and which option combos are rare, I know the bolt patterns of most cars, rim sizes, what the factory steels or optional alloys looked like, I know every single car that used the 3sfe motor, most of them that use the 5sfe, I know some of the lineage of the vz series v6s, I know gear ratios, all of the cars that the close ratio s51 transmission came in. I pretty much read my entire owners manual and know how to operate all of the factory radios and heat units. I know that Toyotas came with a 6 year 60,000 mile warranty, I know that the body was covered against rust for 5. I know how to break in a 30 year old car. I know that all first gen mr2s are backwards Corollas (look it up)

when you have an intrest in your vehicle and the company it came from, and you are also up at 2am learning new things on google every night, you end up with a load of useless information that nobody else cares about, but is very interesting to you

I really like communist architecture (this bus stop in Pripyat for example)
anybody else realize its been 30 years since Chernobyl now?

i really really really enjoy the time life series on WWII cause the pictures and the stuff it goes over is really in depth and you get a sense of how separated the conflicts were. plus it covers everything from POW experiences, to generals leading major fronts and their thought processes, and to individual skirmishes and battles.

the damn thing is out of print though so it sells super expensive :(

beyond that, i really enjoy architecture history. sir banister fletcher's "a history of architecture on the comparative method" 11th ed was really engaging for me for some absurd reason. the good architectural drawings and complete explanation in terms of culture and regional factors probably play a part in that.

tbh i didn't notice that till now lmao
jesus, his father was the exact same name too lmao. and they both authored the book. well, at least for the first few editions.

what about greece. and rome. all that good stuff. where is it.

banister fletcher 11e has 2000 pages, covering architecture from prehistoric to contemporary times (at the time 1980 or something)

500 pages are devoted to greek and roman architecture. so much that the next edition significantly cut down on it and rebalanced the page count so its more even and fair to the different time periods

the sad thing is i absolutely loved the greek/roman section and i only have the 13e :(

i kinda guessed it might have been that but i thought it would have been more obvious. whoops

the only important and cool history is that of the british isles and the super lovey british empire
