are you complaining about having hot shower water in a third world country
no he's wondering what hellish incantation was cast upon his hot water tank to heat it up without the burner running to heat it up

your water supply is connected directly from hell
time to call the landlord/look for a new place to stay
check if the knob on the water heater is actually correctly put on. it might be reversed or turned or loose or something?

is there a 1000 degree knife in your heater

Glowing 1000° heater

I did use a lot of hot water yesterday. I had 13 dishes to wash + the cups + the silverware. I doubt the pilot flame can heat it up that fast. It's a small lighter-like flame and it's a tank made out of metal with a second tank inside, that's where the actual water is in.
It's not when you're using the hot water, it's when you're not using it.  When you start using hot water, the tank begins to heat up new cold water while still using the hot water.

I am not an expert, but I'm just going to go on the basis that heat rises and it draws from the hotter water up top first.  Convection from the bottom, where the heating is, keeps the area at the bottom warm, etc.

Does it really matter? You might have just bypassed half the gas bill.
If you have extra gas I has some ideas for you.

I have a vague idea of how it works but it won't work if it's off and it was like this for about a full week. I have been blessed with infinite heat at no cost.

The pilot still gives off heat though.  Idk in any case.  You like in a unit, and perhaps your pipe are linked with other's systems?

My closest neightbor is 1.2km away. It's just one tank for the house and the pilot gives as much heat as a match. It cannot possibly be the source of it.

i thought you people get your hot water from the giant black buckets on your roof

Wait wait wait. This is Argetina we're talking about. Not Brazil or Venezuela.
