I do draw a lot of anthropomorphic characters, but I do draw humans as well. I don't draw for any loveual pleasures or furry fantasies, but more only for storytelling and other personal hobbies. I ask everyone, does this automatically make me a furry since I also draw anthropomorphic creatures despite drawing humans too? Because big animation companies like Disney and DreamWorks also have their set of anthropomorphic characters and their history of anthropomorphism.
There's really no 100% solid answer but I think the best answer comes down to the difference between "liking something" and "being a fan of something"
"Liking" meaning "oh that's kinda neat"
And "being a fan" meaning "please bring me more of that"
I make the comparison to anime fandom a lot so I'll do it here as well. One of my friend does anime nights at his place where he invites a bunch of friends over and we all watch an anime together. I'd say I like the animes, they have good characters and plots and whatnot, and I enjoy hanging out with everyone. But hanging out is my primary interest for going, and I'm not leaving thinking "oh I really like x character I need to find some nice fan art of him" or "what anime should I watch next" or the like. So I wouldn't say I'm part of that fandom
Big animation studios use animal characters mostly because animal characters appeal to kids, and their movies are mostly kids movies
Also you don't need to have a loveual interest
