Why does my forum profile icon refuse to update?

I have made a nifty profile icon for myself, but every time I try to change my icon to it, it refuses to update!

Why does this happen, and how can I remedy it?

I was lazy and nearly used nearest-neighbor upscaling.  I wanted a product, not a good one.
