Interesting, when my GPU Driver crashes it either goes blackscreen or web pages with javascript and the such go blank.
after the driver reloads web pages are typically black too but a couple of times I've seen this. It doesn't make a great deal of sense to me why that would happen but Chrome's hardware acceleration is a little special sometimes.
OP try disabling hardware acceleration and see what happens. Should be under advanced settings.
