Author Topic: Will dedicated server be up in sleep mode?  (Read 5836 times)

I'm not sure if my server shuts down if I put my PC in sleep mode. I want to host my v20 dedicated server while my PC is in sleep mode but I also don't want it to shut down.
It gets about 3+ players daily, I use the dedicated.bat file to host my server which means it has to keep running for it to stay up and I don't want it to shutdown while PC is in sleep mode.

tl;dr : Will dedicated.bat stay up if PC is in sleep mode?

when your computer is on sleep its turned off, so no. the computer is just on standby so it can boot up quickly once you press a button or something.

Well is there a way to host a dedicated server 24/7 without the .bat running for free?

Without the bat? There is another way by using a shortcut and then adding -dedicated to it, but you still need to leave your computer on. This is how data servers are always accessed, they are in a room being cooled but never turn off unless it's for a reason (blue screen/restarting for updates/etc.)

This also includes that you cannot put the computer in sleep/hibernation/etc or the server cannot stay up because the computer isn't actually running

there is no way to host a server for free

you need hardware to be running 24/7 to have a server 24/7
this either means your own hardware (keep your computer on all the time), or rent somebody elses
