Author Topic: How much bandwidth is being lost?  (Read 138 times)

It's wild to see the number at the bottom of the main page. It's currently 1000 1100:1 guests to users. How hard is it to make it so if you access the site you have to pass through a captcha every X hours? Does this help solve the problem?

Edit: Honestly I think I've mentioned it before but I wish badspot was transparent about the costs to run the forums, both for educational reasons and also a good basis for if anyone decides they do want to donate.

he was transparent ish about the costs iirc: its nothing basically since he runs it on the same server/computer that does the master server and possibly his personal website as well. until this becomes too much of a pain to keep up (ie bugginess or being attacked) he probably wont ever stop hosting this website.

thats actually kinda awesome actually LOL. i had no idea he was hosting everything personally (presumably even the master server during the peak days of BL?), having the kind of self-reliance to basically keep your livelihood running with your own hardware seems very intriguing. i should look more into that

Pretty sure he's using a hosting provider (a long time ago he moved from brinkster to something else) and just using the same VPS for everything of his; he is not using personal hardware.
