How do I use game controllers in Blockland?

Okay, well whenever I start the game, the little black box comes up, right? And then at the end it says, "joystick0 input device created." That's my controller. I have gone to controls to set the controls, but it won't respond when I set them with the controller. My controller is a Recoil 12-button (i think) Gamepad. It just goes into the USB port thing. How do I set the controls for it?

Well, I think it would be cool to use the game controller. I looks like a PlayStation controller, except it has the buttons 1, 2, 3, and 4 for Triangle, Circle, Cross and square
