A 6800 GT? Bad in today's standards. Get at least somewhere in the 8 series.

Also, what@bold.

I used to have a 6800 XT, then it went apestuff on me so I got a 8600 GT. IMO, no real improvement but at least the 8600 wasn't asploding blue screens.
same

Only server motherboards could have 8 processors and even then I am not sure they make them with that many sockets.

If, on the other hand, you want to get more semantic...

Some categorize "processors" as being the number of threads you can run at once. Core 2 Duos can run up to 4 threads simultaneously, whereas Core 2 Quads can run 8 threads at a time. It still only has 2 independent cores on the die.

Now...the new I7 processors are a whole new deal. I'm not even going to get started there.

Number of cores/threads/processors doesn't make much difference in the gaming world (above 2 that is) as few games are optimized for more than 1 or 2 threads.

Its all about the RAM and GPU.

(correct me if i'm wrong)

It's about balance.

A powerful graphics card is useless without a good processor. A good processor is useless without enough memory. On top of that you need a stable power supply, decent cooling and a reliable hard drive.

Each component has different characteristics which make them "good" or "bad". The hard part is know what all the jargon means.

I lol'd hard

I don't see any reason to laugh at, so stop. My mom has that computer because she is a busy designer who needs a good computer that she can trust not to randomly shut down on her projects.

Ya, I have a Mac Pro. Nice server computer. You confused people when you said 8 processors and not 8 cores. It's usually understood that processor means the entirety of the die. On a typical server there are usually two sockets to put a processor in. That's the case of the Mac Pro.

I hope that your parents didn't get RAM from Apple as they charge out the ass for it for some reason. You can get 4GB of RAM on newegg for about $100 for the Mac.

Uhhh

I usually have OS X Server running with Vista Ultimate on a virtual machine. I don't see how anyone can hate OS X Server, it's even more Unixy than regular OS X!
