Dedicated server and client on same network?

I need some help:
I have a dedicated server at home,
It works fine for friends and other players.
But when i try to connect with my laptop on the same internet connection
(My laptop uses a other serial) Its just dead for me?
Is this normal? Can i fix this?
Any help is appreciated

Try it on your "home" computer.

And there is no modify button in the help section.

You need to enter the IP of your computer under connect by IP.

I don't know about the rest, but I do know that when I host my dedicated on my server, I don't see it in lan, so I don't think that is a problem.

The server wont showup in the LAN list, its just dead in the internet list.
When i enter the IP of the server, it keeps repeating: Sending Challenge Request...
