Author Topic: Need a tutorial for making Decals.  (Read 841 times)

I'm basically a noob when it comes to making addons.  I came up with the idea for a decal, but I realized I had no clue how to make one.  If you can please give me a good tutorial or maybe a link to one.  I'll need probably every step.

making faces and decals is a simple task, just make it using any paint-like program: MS Paint, Paint.net, GIMP, Photoshop, etc.

size it to 256x256 and save it

then make it 64x64 and save that to another folder titled thumbs and throw the 256x256 pic in a zip folder aong with the thumbs folder and your done.
If you need clarification on my run-on sentences, just tell me.

So do I have to originally make it 256x256 or could I resize it to that.  How would a make a folder zipped.  Um and thats about it, I'll try to contact you if I have any troubleshooting. Thanks...Heres a cookie for your help  :cookie:

you could resize it and to make a zip just right click on your desk top and go to new then select Compressed (zipped) folder

Ok I'm almost done.  I have save the image as a .png along with the thumb, the icon comes up when I try to change my character, but when I click on it my character just has a blank chest. Do I have to make the parts to crop the white parts out, if so how? It just doesn't come up at all other than an Icon.

Ok heres a Screenshot off what it looks like to me.

I think the problem is because I used the normal paint, which doesn't include any form of Transparency so thats why its white instead of Grey, but it doesn't come up at all

Not sure why that happens, but you might be right about paint.

Thanks for the link, but I had already downloaded it, I just need to update/install Microsoft .net so it can work (which it says will take about 2 hrs) I'll keep trying.

More Troubleshooting... take a look at this

I remade it on Paint.net so that I could get a transparent background, but it doesn't appear on my avatar.  On the other hand the background for the thumb is grey which is good.  Are you sure that it is 256x256?
