Author Topic: Walking In virtual reality  (Read 2199 times)

I've actually seen an omnidirectional treadmill.   I was being given a tour of a cool company on a weekend by one of the employees that is a family friend.  I didn't get to see it in action, but it was a giant square with a treadmill of teadmills (going different directions, to allow for omnidirectional movement.)  It also had a frame for mounting cameras.  When operational, the cameras would be able to detect where someone is on the treadmill, and move them back to the center.  So if you wanted, you literally could run as fast as you can, and still wouldn't be able to get off.

Would need to be alot faster if you were running. Seriously, wtf is that stuff?

But hot damn it's awesome

Sooooo...
How do these..."omnidirectional treadmills" Work however?
I dont see how its possible, unless its a giant moving sheet...

Ok, thing of a thin but long treadmill.  Now think of a bunch of those creating a bigger treadmill, the length of the smaller ones becoming the width of the big one.  They're costly, but really cool.

Basically the only use for one of these movement squares would be a Fire Emblem esque square-based movement game.

Wait a minute, I doubt these are adaptive. You'd have to walk where the game told you, or else they wouldn't work.

I personally like the omni-directional treadmill. More practical for gaming purposes.
The disadvantage of the tread mill would be that you can't have one in your own home.
Yeah, you could. Just have it in an un-used room or something......or outside >.> just have a roof/cover on it.

Thats really cool i wonder when they will make it STFU
