In AZ they are called graduated instruction permits.  You just have to take a test on the computers there to get it.  And you just have to hold it for 6 months to get your license instead of having a certain amount of hours.

Lerners permit here. The DMV has a one month backlog of appointments, so I'ma get it in like half a month :(
