When we built my computer, it turned out we had to replace the battery in the motherboard for it to start.

I'd be so pissed if I spent hours trying to figure out what the problem was, and it turning out it was the battery needing to be replaced.

i wouldnt be pissed, cause ive done that before.
however i would be pissed if it was because of a faulty CPU..
id go down to UPS and backhand my $200 outta them.

they did an over the phone thing, and we tested the PSU, that ran fine when we did that paperclip method.

Heh, story about that.
About a week ago my dad's computer wouldn't turn on. He tested the power supply, and all the voltages were right, so he replaced the motherboard, and it still wouldnt turn on. After a few days of figuring things out, it turned out it actually was the power supply. Even though the voltages were all right, it must not have been supplying enough watts or something.

But if the CPU got thrown over the fence, I'd say its that. Even if it's not the problem, I'd see if you can get another one just because some dumbass threw it :D

yeah, im gonna go all rich guy hissy fit on their asses.

A CPU problem shouldn't prevent it from powering up at all. If that's the problem, it should power on for a second and then shut off. Same thing happened to a friend of mine.

My computer first had the problem of having an extremely sensitive off button
I fixed that though, by turning off that input.

well make sure the power cable is plugged into the wall.

sorry.

already did, its plugged in.

Make sure your PSU is set to the correct voltage?

try shorting the power leads, bypassing the power button
