well if you are inexperienced with modeling programs(I happen to be) then I would suggust sketchup (easy for beginners, but not good enough for pro's).

Steps to get mod editor (mapping):

1. Right click on Blockland on your desktop and click on properties.

2.On target add a space then put -mod editor. (No period)

3. Open Blockland and click on Start a game and start your server.

4. On your server, press on your keyboard, f11.

5. Mod editor will open and just kind of figure out how to edit or add stuff.

I mainly learned how to map on my own but someone told me how to get mod editor.
