What Did WW2 bases look like?

I'm making a WW2 TDM that's very simple.  Because All my servers lag at 3k bricks.   -.-   So I need to know what the bases would've probably looked like since they constantly traveled.  can anyone help me out here?

- P.S. If anyone wants to help with the base/encampment or whatever it is, then you can.  But I doubt you would want to since I can't build awesome builds with the lag coming too soon.
