Author Topic: Need computer help  (Read 1228 times)

I'm having some trouble with my XP.  This morning, when I logged in, it opened some atanic warmaster song on youtube.  I logged out, and logged in again to see if it wasn't my brother and sister being forgets.  It opened again and my computer froze so I had to unplug it.  On restarting, it gave me the safe mode menu.  I tryed each of the 3 safe mode choices before trying to start in the last known good configuration and then starting normally.  On each, it restarted the computer.  So, as far as I know, I can't run system restore.

Try a spyware and virus scan. For spyware, I recommend a program called spybot search and destroy. You can use any virus scanner, but I recommend panda or kaspersky.

I can't run anything on it.  Shows the computer startup, the windows startup, goes into that menu, restarts.

Well, shutting it off and letting it sit awhile.
If no luck
Try booting it in safe mode
Try calling your computer's manufacterer or Microsoft
Try geeksquad or a computer repair service.

That's all I got.

Forgot to mention that I can access the boot menu and setup.

Okay, then you get get into safe mode.

I get restarted after the safemode selection screen.  So how do I run it?

Did some searching, found this.

Several days ago my computer froze up. Upon restarting, it would not
get past the screen that asks if you want some form of Safe Mode, last
known good config, or the usual start up.

None of these will do anything but attempt a start and wind up back at
this screen again.

I've gotten a copy of System Mechanic, but I can't get that to start
either. I can't get it to open BIOS so I can set it to boot from the
CD drive. What I've been doing to attempt accessing BIOS is using F2,
escape, and delete (not all together, just each of them separately to
try getting in).

Is there something I'm doing wrong or am missing? Would love some
help. Thanks!!
The problem sounds similar to what I have but I have no idea how to fix it..

Try geeksquad

Are you loving crazy???

They charge $200 Just to look at whats wrong, probably another 1000 to fix it.

Couble just buy a new computer for that.  The problem is, if I have to reformat, I've got some files on there that I don't wat t lose but I don't know how to get them off if I can't start windows.

1. Get a Linux install disc and overwrite your Windows installation
2. Overwrite your Linux installation with a clean install of your Windows version
3. ???
4. Profit

Thanks for the help guys. I'm still right where I started with no loving clue how to fix it.

DOOO IT

Called a friend.  The problem was that some of the system files were corrupted.  We put the hard drive into another computer with a working version of windows and the working version fixed mine.  After that, I ran system restore and everything works fine now.
