Author Topic: Investing in a New Computer  (Read 877 times)

Here's the story. Every computer I've had until this one was a piece of stuff. This current one is pretty nice for a variety of things, but it runs on Mac OS. If you don't know, this OS is notorious for not being able to run awesome games that I want to play as well as a few other things. I eventually invested in VMware Fusion a couple years ago, but after a few months of using it, I found out it cannot run most Steam games as well as execute basic functions that I wanted to do in the first place. Now I've decided that I actually need to simply buy a computer that runs on Windows instead of chasing a tedious prospect I know is already impossible. I was going to look for a nice computer, and I knew that this community has a good understanding of graphics cards, memory, and whatever that stuff is supposed to mean.

tl;dr: All of my past computers can't do stuff. Help me find a one that can.

I need a good-quality computer that runs games with a nice framerate, especially the kind with lotsa cpu-eating graphics. Now, go out and fetch me what I desire, servants.

Build one.  If you want something you can afford, and runs things well, you will have to build it.

What if you were an idiot who didn't know what RAM was until a few days ago.

If you have the know-how or know someone that can, build it. I've never done it myself but I know that a lot of people have and have been immensely satisfied with the result.

Anyway, if you're not going for super intense graphical craziness (Crysis maxed at 1920×1200) and you're not building, I'd suggest an Inspiron 518 by Dell. It's a very nice computer, I've never had a problem with it and with a nicer graphics card than stock and a 2.2 dual core, 3 GB of RAM, I've not had a problem running many games (besides ones that like just came out) but if you invest in a kickass processor, then you can always come back and upgrade RAM and your GPU.

I can do that.  :cookieMonster:

AMD Phenom Quad core Processor.

That's all I can read from the boxthing.

Newegg has some good deals for prebuilts.

Why is it that a lot of people fail to realize they should put their budget in the topic?

The actually assembly is very easy, so we can pick out parts if he does indeed give us a budget.

I'm going to assume my budget is around $1000, give or take.
