Author Topic: Port Forwarding on Vista  (Read 708 times)

Ok, I seriously need help. I did the router forwarding, but can find the place to put my dns numbers because all the guides are XP and stuff is in way different places. I'll probably get banned for asking this, even though I read 2 guides and they didn't help much.....

I forget which you use, ipv4 or 6.
That's really the only difference for port forwarding between XP and Vista/7.

Problem I've always had is I have only one DNS server...

IPv4.

I don't understand why people are fiddling with DNS settings and static IPs. Port forwarding should require absolutely no changes on your computer - only your router.

The reason some guides suggest doing all that DNS stuff is because old routers didn't have LAN IP reservation so each time your router assigned your pc a new LAN IP you'd have to re-port forward. This is not the case anymore, we have evolved and routers can now hand out LAN IPs based on your MAC address.

Are you referring to the second half of the Blockland port forwarding tutorial? Because that requires changes on the computer, and if I don't do those I can't host a server. Both my computer and router are quite new.

Blockland does not require special steps for port forwarding. It uses TCP and UDP like any other game. I have done port forwarding many many times, not once have I ever had to change anything on any computer. Ever.
