Author Topic: SketchUp models crash me.  (Read 873 times)

Okay, this is the second time I've tried to export a test model to Blockland. I was using SketchUp, exported to .dae, imported to Blender, exported to .dts.

Well, the game wouldn't pick it up in the addon list. I backed up the default rocket launcher and replaced the model in it with mine. The rocket launcher loaded, but when I set the brick to hold one, there was nothing above the brick. It still let me pick up an item (and the icon was an R in the items menu), but when I switched to it, Blockland froze and crashed with the usual "Blockland.exe has stopped working."

Is there a solution to this? When I made the model in SketchUp, I left it at its default colours and it loaded fine in Blender as well. I don't know my Blender version because the about box doesn't even show up, and I'm using SketchUp 7.1.

The console printed nothing unusual.

SketchUp models tend to be high poly, it might have to do with that.

Did you parent the model to Detail32?

Ctrl-P the model in Blender?

Ctrl-P the model in Blender?
Ctrl-P did nothing. Does it still Detail32 the model?

Here, try DarkStar's Tutorial.

No thanks.

Blender randomy freezes up/crashes after about 5 minutes of use. I'd rather not model with something so unstable and unusable.

Sounds like your model is way over poly.
Or it has fragments.

Although, I would love more info.
Like a screen shot of the model in sketchup.
How many polys it has.

Etc.

...so unstable and unusable.
Pardon, what.
Blender is one of the best Modelling programs I have ever used.
You either:
A) Have an outdated version of Blender
B) Have a stuffty computer that can't handle your Sketchup Model.

No thanks.

You handicapped forget, Blender is professional 3D modelling program that kicks ass, whereas Sketchup, is just some amatuer 3D architectural drawing program(Its only amatuer because it lacks the amazing stuff Sketchup Pro has and that it was made for kids like you). I suggest you learn to use Blender. And like KoopaScooper said

Why don't people just make the model in Blender instead of Sketchup? Its a lot less work and ends up better looking in-game. And less lagg ingame too
