Author Topic: Icon Making  (Read 846 times)

When making Icons, they always come out blurry and look terrible, this is probably because I scale them down. Is there an Icon making tutorial anywhere?

Here is an example of one of my icons, you can see what is wrong. The white around the edges. This is how I make mine:
I render it in blender, then I go into paint.net and magic wand the sides. Then I scale it down to 64x64

Wrong file. I accidently uploaded the CI instead of the icon.

A frying pan? Oooohhhh somebody's gonna be mad...

The icon looks fine to me..

Maybe you should add that cicle thingy in the background.

Make a greenscreen ingame. Use green glow print bricks. Take a screenshot of the angle you want. Open paint.net and magic wand the background out. It makes a perfect image with no white pixels around it. If the item is green, I use red.

EDIT: And about the trans circle. This is what I do:

-open the default icon of any item.
-Eyedrop the color of the circle.
-Add a new layer.
-Use the paintbrush tool and adjust the size to the same as the circle. Click once to paint the circle.
-Select the whole document and copy.
-Clear everything on that document and remove all layers. You want a blank trans document.
-Paste the trans circle you made. Then add a new layer.
-copy and paste your Item image into the new layer. Resize and move it to where you want.
-Merge the layers. Save as.

Note: when resizing your image, when you shrink it, then make it big again, it will become blurry. Undo and try again if this happens.

Can someone post a .png of just the circle in the background?

Here:

my icos are no better. i do the same thing but mine are all shaded on the sides: i can never get the lighting to work...

personally I think that ico is just as good as the defaults.

Made you the icon.
