Author Topic: Need help with a computer  (Read 886 times)

My dad's laptop is infected with the Antispyware Soft fake Anti-Malware tool, he told me it started when he clicked on a link at leenks.com. I'm suspecting a drive-by download. I've already used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 2 times, once in normal mode, and once in safe mode, AND IT CAME BACK. Here are the details of the Laptop.

Laptop Brand: Acer
Operating System: Windows Vista (No service packs installed)

I think the warranty expired (I'm not sure) we got the laptop about 2 or 3 years ago, it has not been able to update since we first got it, IT DID NOT COME WITH A RECOVERY/REFORMAT DISK! Do I have any other options? Please help me.

I forgot to mention that it has Avast Free Anti-Virus installed.

WHOOPS, forgot to say problem was solved 2-3 days ago. It was re-appearing because of a fake Mozilla Firefox add-on, and It's able to update again!

And if you contact the manufacturer, you can get a Vista install disc.

yah you can always request a disk for your exact computer. sometimes its free, sometimes it can be 20-50 bucks.
worth it if your not to savvy on computers though.

attempting to reinstall a normal windows disk on a laptop many times misses the sound and ethernet drivers for your board.

You could always try to get anti virus. Drive by downloading is peaking, I would suspect the same.

antispyware soft you say?

is this program running in the background?

Do an online Kaspersky scan.

Do an online Kaspersky scan.
Panda's service also works pretty well.
