edit: Unless you're just being a smartass and going with the specific term laser diode. I meant laser diode. There could be glass else where in the construction, but not in the diode itself.

Anyway, every diode I've blown up for fun just hisses or fizzles, or just glows real hot. Has never exploded. Are you sure this one did?
