On my desktop computer, it buzzes like hell when running games, and is very loud.
I opened up the computer and vaccumed all of the dust out
then it was perfect and nice
try it on yours, there might just be a lot of dust clogging up the fan.

I vote registry spam.
Go get your registry cleaned up and see if it fixes it.
It might be overworking your computer with all the little stuff bits of stuff in your registry which is making it overheat.
Sometimes when I have too many windows open it increases my laptop's heat. But I don't have to deal with a registry because I'm a mac and macs don't suck.

Macs don't suck. *brofist*
Anyway, my desktop is loud, especially in sleep mode. Strange. It is a Compaq Presario. It sucks cause it doesn't even have pixel shader 1.1 support. WTF?

Here's what I do. Get a vacuum cleaner, stuff it on the air intake/air vent and set it to suck. Put it on where the air blows out and do the same, also, how much HDD space have you got left? That can lag games too.

From my experience, holding the power button can fragment the hard disk. Defragment your hard drive, it helps me a lot usually.
