American football actually started out rather similar to how futbol/football/soccer is played today where scoring points was strictly kicking the ball to teammates down the field then kicking it through the goals. I guess it was just too easy to punt it 50 yards down so they complicated it making you have to carry the ball as well and there you go.

The only reason that Soccer is so popular worldwide is because it takes so very little to play.

If you have a ball, four pieces of junk, at least two people, and a relatively flat, open area, you can play soccer.
