My server's ping is always dead

whenever i launch an internet server, i load up a second blockland application to check my ping in "join servers" and its always dead....
Is this because i havn't port forwarded?

okay, its kinda a big job though to port forward since all the computers in the house are connected and alot needs changing :/
and im using a laptop, someone said that if we port forward i can use internet at other peoples houses on my laptop. Is that true?

checking your own ping won't give you accurate results because you are geographically on top of yourself

port forwarding doesn't require any physical change unless you do not have a router

you can use internet anywhere regardless of ports being forwarded, just plug it in .. ?
