Author Topic: Question about electrical stuff  (Read 1299 times)

I live in Maryland which during the summer has pretty nasty thunderstorms.

I was wondering if my desktop computer is safe from a power outage and won't have its stuff fried inside.

I use this power strip thing that I think may have a surge protector and its plugged in to a three-prong outlet which I heard is a ground in case of an electrical surge. Is that safe from surges/outages?

If it helps my computer has survived, same power supply being used and all, with the only side effect of the game I was running crashing when it tried to play a voice file that was playing when the outage hit, and totally working fine after.

It's going to get fried and attain sentience.

loving eletrical stuff

I am paranoid, so I keep a fire extinguisher near bye.

How does it work!
Quite well actually, you just have to be careful and wear proper protection.

It should be safe from an outage but alot of things can kill it. Lightening and power surges (When your lights flicker) can easily kill equipment. You would need a UPS if this is an expensive high-end system.

I just unplug mine in storms.

Power Surge Protector or is that beyond everyone.

Like Number 5?

How much can you plug into a usp?

Yeah I think I'll just stick with a UPS.
