Decal shadows?

Can someone give me a tutorial of how to make realistic shadows on decals? I can find places in my decals to put shadows but I've tried making shadowed decals before but it didnt look good. Is there a way to make shadows that will "blend in" with any color like a shadowy red when the player wears a red shirt, or a shadowy blue for a blue one.

If you make the behind of the white transparent with no other colours then add a transparent white ontop of that then it should work.
