Author Topic: Need to get ping on a server  (Read 2649 times)

Ok, so I am hosting a server, and I can't get a ping. I have tried using UnPn, then forwarded my ports and disabled UnPn, and it still won't work. What can I do to get a ping? More RAM? What should I do.

i don't think uPnP will get you a ping or something, just let people play it (not sure, but i didn't have a ping using uPnP and it worked for others to join)

you got a router?

Yes. D-Link.

It wasn't working anyways :P. Could more RAM help, Because I can hook up my USB Drive and se it at virtual RAM.

Yes. D-Link.

and you tried port forwarding too....

i dont think there IS another way... :s

I'm asking is if you could improve your computer with more RAM and stuff that It will allow you to get a ping and let people on. I have determined that I have no ping what so ever from using the Server Info Announce with the Check ping command, and my friends can't join. I'm thinking more RAM could fix this, or even upgrading my laptop (even though it's really good now) would fix this problem.

Bump, still need lots of help :( I have my USB Drive in so I can try using it for Virtual RAM. If you need more info here it is:

Code: [Select]
[li]Windows 7 Ultimate[/li]
[li]Rating: 2.4[/li]
[li]Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) Duo CPU[/li]
[li]RAM: 2.5[/li]
[li]32-bit Operating System[/li]
Well I'm still having issues. I'm going to turn UPNP back on and see what happens.

reset the router.

ram makes no diffrence except 4 how fast yer cpu goes

bigger paging file dosen't help much if you don't have the ram to process the file either.

The way my server is set up, I get ping only while both UPNP is on AND my ports are forwarded/allowed correctly.

I just realized that my IP Address and DNS weren't setup Manually. I just did them, though V4 and V6 of the Internet Protocol is weird... Must be a Windows 7 thing. I'll keep this up until I see it working, just in case.

You only need to use IP v4. IP v6 is supposedly the next generation of the internet, but it's not gonna get off the ground for a while.

Ah, I was wondering about that. Well what stinks is I haven't tried hosting, yet when I do just to look at some maps, GSF Paradise crashed my blockland. I already made a topic.

Forwarding Ports has fixed my problems. THIS IS NOW LOCKED!
