FRAPS help

Okay, recently I purchased a copy of FRAPS to record Blockland and a few other games. I've been able to get everything working, all the way to editing the file. I recorded a BL video and played it back, it had great FPS and decent graphics to it. When I decided to upload it to Windows Movie Maker 2.6, the graphics went decently down. it was as if the pixels were a little forgeted up, but wasn't terrible. If you compared the youtube video and the recorded file unedited, you would definetly notice a difference. Later I recorded another game I play, called DEFCON. It was even worse. The pixels made all of it blurry and you could barely tell the boats away from planes.

The problem is not with FRAPS, because when I play back the version straight out of my movie files, it looks great. Its just that as soon as I put it into windows movie maker, it becomes very blurry and the graphics look like stuff, yet FPS stays exactly the same. I wanted to know if maybe the problem is that WMM Isnt the right choice, or if theres some simple problem that can easily be fixed.

btw, im not a computer expert. Please don't get upset if I need help with computer vocab or definitions of things. I do understand how to find files and where to put them. also, i decided to put this in Offtopic because its not related to Blockland much at all, other then im recording some BL things with FRAPS.




I only use Movie maker to trim the video and put two or more videos together. After that i save it as a movie file and upload it to Youtube. If I need to use some other editor or software, please tell me. I would prefer something thats free, but if it doesnt cost to much it would be fine.

It's because Windows Move Maker renders the video with lower quality. Windows Move Maker can also only export (save) the video file as a low quality file type. That's why Move Maker sucks. If you want really good quality you'll have to buy a professional video editor or just upload the original file to youtube.

is there any you can recommend, preferably a lower costing one (not one that completely sucks though).

The guy at office max told you wrong, Graphics cards increase fps some and give you the ability to run higher-quality games. But I think there is properties to set your video in Movie Maker to a higher resolution, yet I can't remember where, but from what I remember, by default, the video res is set to the screen size of your generic pocket PC, but you change that when you convert it/ finish it to .WMV format.

That is somewhat true. You can change the video encoding to make it better but the quality is still stuff. I still recommend getting a better video editor.

Well if someone could recommend one that doesnt cost me lots of money, but still gets it to atleast decent quality, I would look into getting one.

The reason your FPS goes to stuff when you play a higher graphic game is because it uses more resources. Recording/encoding video requires a lot of resources which leaves your computer with very little power to run your game.

You can solve this issue by getting better computer parts which can be very pricey and tedious.

Well the one I use which is selling for like 80 bucks right now is Corel Video Studio ProX3. It comes with some lovey features like chroma key and can export many different file types including HD and Bluray.

Okay, im going to see how much extra money I get for christmas and my birthday, and see if I have enough to get that or something like it. You have edited Blockland videos with it and know it works right? I just dont want to spend 80 dollars to find out its the same stuff as WMM.

There is no difference. Full means that you're buying the program for the first time. Upgrade means you have an older version of the program like ProX2 and you want the latest version.

Also it's a really good program trust me. It has multiple audio and video channels which allows you to do chroma key (greenscreen) and has a bunch of neat effects and features. It's basically the slightly downgraded version of Sony Vegas.

Okay, thank you all for helping me figure this out. I was pretty sure I needed something knew. I've actually wanted some video editor for a long time, considering all WMM can do is make stuffty transitions to slides and annoy the hell out of me. Im going to lock this topic then, as it has no use for me.
