Author Topic: Why can't I set up a Static IP correctly?  (Read 605 times)

The title.

I get the correct IP, DNS(Primary and secondary), Subnet Mask, and gateway by typing ipconfig/all in the cmd console, but when I hit save changes on my router, all it does is make my internet go out until I change it back to dynamic. And yes, I did go on the tcp/udp thing and hit properties and then enter the settings manually, but seriously? It won't change to static. What am I doing wrong?

Don't you have to pay for a static ip?

http://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Already did that, but my router still says dynamic.

Don't you have to pay for a static ip?

No, because I set a static IP at my mom's house.

What happens if you restart your computer?

How is that relevant?

Sometimes effects dont take place until you restart your computer.

I set what portforward told me to do about 3 months ago.

Super bump, but I don't want to make a new topic.

I'll try and do what I can real quickly.

Are you Windows 7 or XP?

Control Panel > View Network Status And Tasks > Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol IPv4 > Set Ip And Such

Make sure it's IPv4. IPv6 is some beta stuff or something that we're going to have to use eventually because the world is running out of IP adresses. :C
