Author Topic: What do you guys think about this CPU+Mobo?  (Read 531 times)

Currently, my desktop's specs are:

CPU= 2.7Ghz Celeron, single core
RAM= Less than 1GB
HDD= 40GB Linux and 120GB Windows
GPU= some insanely old Intel Onboard GPU

I would like to get this CPU- Intel Celeron E3300 Wolfdale 2.5GHz, because it was said to be a good budget CPU

Paired with this Mobo- GIGABYTE GA-G41M-ES2L What do you guys think about this, my Tech Support Forum?

Ya, it was a decent CPU like three or four years ago.

The rest of your desktop is horribly crippled at best so I would just save the money.

I know. I already have my laptop for now, I just want my Desktop as a backup. I am also going to overclock the CPU.

Ew celeron

personally, I have a terrible experience with a Celeron processor.

I open paint and I get 100% CPU usage.

I recommend something else, how about this?

Pros: Dual core, runs cool and quick. Scores a 6.0 in Win7 x64's rating system. Granted, this is not a very telling benchmark, but it does handle Windows 7 very well. This is nothing like the old Celerons. It is quicker than my 1st generation Core2Duo E6300. BIOS says it's running at about 25° C (before I installed the OS).

Cons: Can we do away with this plastic pin heat sink business?

Other Thoughts: Put this together with an ASUS P5QPL-AM board, 4GB of GSkill DDR2-800, 320GB WD hard drive, Antec case and PSU, Lite On DVD burner, and made an excellent home machine with Windows 7 for right at 500 dollars, including the OS. Highly recommended processor for standard duty home/office machine.

Newegg and Amazon customer reviews are worthless for future reference.

Anecdotal experiences and uninformed commentary for the most part.
