I need some pointers for a computer

Yes, another computer topic on the Off Topic board.

So my father gave me a IOU for one 'whatever' for christmas. A week later, I asked for a paper entitling me to three more whatevers, which I believe I'll be getting soon. That, however, isn't the point of this topic.

I have decided to use one of my three towards a computer. I'm comfortable with building it myself, but I don't know what kind of stuff I need in it to:
Run minecraft on far draw distance at 30fps or higher
Run blockland at at least medium settings at about 30 fps on a brick heavy tdm. (I don't know about this. Mainly the minecraft.)
What kind of things do I need for this?
I'm hoping to keep it under 1000, I don't want to ... abuse this gift.
I'm currently using a acer aspire one d150 netbook.1.6 ghz intel atom n270 processor, with a intel gma 945 excel or something  at 400 mhz. 1 gb of ram.

The Gateway DX4840 is a nice computer, and runs minecraft at 50ish FPS.
i3 Processor.
In my Gallery Topic (which I'm too lazy to link), has about 20,000 bricks in the first screenie. And is at 80.
It costs $600 at futureshop.
Did I mention 4gigs of RAM?

I have it, and it's pretty good.
