Windows Movie Maker won't work with AVI files.  I need it to at least be able to put avis together and save as another file type.  Also it should be free.  Suggest away!

I know Windows LIVE Movie Maker does.
However I don't know if you can download it for XP (I'm assuming you have that)

I can use .avi files with Windows Movie Maker, because Fraps makes .avi files after recording, if i remember correctly (because i haven't used it for several months)

You could download the Sony Vegas Pro 8 trial like i do

I was a little confused too, but then i got used to it pretty quickly after messing with Meet the Spy and one day some sort of Garry's Mod thing i was doing as a parody of the Left 4 Dead 2 intro (which i just stopped working on because i ran out of ideas)

I believe you just broke something somehow

No it doesn't.
Then you must of done something wrong. FRAPS records .AVI's and I used them to make a video. It worked fine.
