I wasn't sure if this should go in games or offtopic so I put it here. The Craftmen wish to play dungeons and dragons. We wish to completely legally buy the manuals. Which version is best.

I've only played version 3.5 but I've been told its garbage compared to version 3

Also we haven't (or at least I haven't) ever played D&D so please keep that it mind.

V3.5 all the way.

Version 3.5 is great, I've played the older versions and they're a lot harder to manage. I don't know about Version 4 but I can't see many ways to improve 3.5 so just get it. There's also a helpful computer program which makes organization a hell of a lot easier. http://www.dmgenie.com/
