Author Topic: Replacing Intel 845 Card  (Read 665 times)

It`s so goddamn horrible, that I want to upgrade. Thing is, I don't know anything about upgrading. All I know related to my card, is that I have an Intel 845 Integrated Chipset. What is the cheapest card to get that would work with older games? (IE: CoD2)

Also, I only have 30$ and a 25$ Walmart giftcard.

EDIT: I most likely can't upgrade on my budget.

I'll post my dxdiag

wait until you have a bit more then you can get a real swell card instead of something barely better than what you have now

How much? I don`t get allowance. I might sell games and 1 of my 2 Sega Genesis consoles for money.

wait till you have about $100 then you can get the Nvidia GT 9800 which can run all games perfect (at least any game made before 2006)

Anything else to upgrade?

EDIT: Ram and what else?

Would these games work on the 9800?

CS:S
Minecraft
TF2
Battlefield 2

Some others.

9800 is nice but looking at the rest of your computer specs I'm not sure it would even have the required slot to put it in

No point in upgrading that machine.  The Intel Celeron CPU is absolutely abysmal and will bottleneck any modern graphics card horribly, and you're not really in a position to upgrade it either, since it's on an old socket type (LGA 775) and frankly put, it'd cost you less just to buy a new motherboard and CPU instead of trying to upgrade it.  I could easily find you a new motherboard and CPU combo that would work, but judging from your current budget, I'd say it would be kind of hard to find one that wouldn't leave you broke.  The best I could do that wouldn't be absolutely terrible is around $200, and that doesn't include the price of a newer graphics card (eg the 6850, don't even consider something like the 9800GT, it's very dated), a new power supply to drive said graphics card, and a new case, assuming your current one is a pre-built.

Wait until you have the cash for a new computer.
