Author Topic: Crippling lag on player connections  (Read 446 times)

Hey.

I've just started hosting again recently on a new installation of Vista, and everything has seemed right (as right as it gets on this piece of stuff), except for how every time a player connects I lag the hell out. It didn't used to do this; everything was fine. It seems that the quality of the service is degrading, but it should still work the same, right?

I also tried accessing my server from a separate computer on my LAN. Same result.

Anyone have any suggestions/theories on how to fix it?
The computer causing it? The modem causing it?

Thanks in advance.

It is normal to lag slightly whenever a player joins, you are sending them the file manifest. A slow computer and poor internet connection can add to the lag, however. And I suppose that having more add-ons enabled would also contribute to this, but probably not as much.

Ditto even when I have barely any add-ons enabled I lag for about 20 seconds when someone joins

Thanks for the input guys ^

I'll toy with this more, check it on a different computer in a bit that isn't half as crappy. My only concern is how every now and then BL actually crashes (forgot to mention that, whoops).

I'll be back on what I find, I guess.

This also happens to me. I will randomly crash it says something about my graphic then it has successfully restored them. I cant read the whole message before it goes away. But anyways, If the lag is normal for almost all servers then it will prob be fixed with V20
