Plants

So I was thinking earlier (and no this isn't a highdea)...are they called "plants" because they need to be "planted" in the ground?

no im sure planted, was a term named after plants.

nouns must exist first for to verb something.

Hmm its debatable, if you plant something you're just sitting part of said object into the ground. Plants are partly in the ground so maybe it could of just been like "What do we call these things that are planted in the ground?, plants?".
